‘The industry needs to listen to us, to value our perspectives and our stories, to understand that we come from a different place, consume different culture, read different books, and see the world from a different perspective. And that that perspective is valuable.’

Introducing the Breakthrough Leadership Programme
Recognising the small talent pool of creative TV leaders from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds, Indigo has partnered with The TV Collective and Fremantle to launch the Breakthrough Leadership Programme. With the ambition of supporting 50 middle to senior creatives who feel like they have hit, or are fast approaching a glass ceiling, this programme aims to change the face of the British TV industry.
As Simone Pennant MBE, founder and director of The TV Collective explains, ‘At this middle/senior level in British TV, it becomes difficult for many Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic professionals to clearly spell out long-term professional goals – and the steps needed to get there. This is partly due to a lack of opportunities, often not having a full understanding of the sector's nuances, and a lack of contacts (or 'social capital'), all amplified by the challenges of being Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic in our industry.’
The inaugural Breakthrough Leadership Programme will, in conjunction with a mentor and personal coaching, embark on a 12-month programme of masterclasses, networking events and leadership sessions. Career coaching will continue after the programme has been completed and Indigo has committed to ensure the participants will be championed across all the searches that we are engaged on.
Indigo is also committed to work with our clients to ensure their recruitment processes – from the identification through to the interviewing – are truly culturally inclusive to support all candidates from all backgrounds.
